Halloween was here! Petra was so excited! Halloween was Petra’s favourite holiday.

This year was going to be special because Petra’s friend Nana Witch was going trick-or-treating with Petra and her friends.

Halloween arrived, and they were ready to go. Nana Witch arrived on her pretend vacuum broom.

“I was in a hurry to get here, and boy was the traffic busy!” exclaimed Nana Witch, enjoying being a witch for one night.

“Busy?”, asked Petra.

“Well, yes,” said Nana Witch. “At Halloween, the sky has a lot of witches flying around. I needed to get here fast. Are we ready to go trick-or-treating?”

“YES”, chimed in Petra and her friends. “Let’s go!”

Off they went! After awhile, their bags were almost full of goodies. They were all having so much fun!

Then, all of a sudden, two dark, scary figures showed up out of the gloom. They were bullies! The bullies stood in their way, glowering at Petra and her friends.

Oh dear, now what were they going to do?

Petra and her friends stood behind Nana Witch and waited. The bullies stood and glared at the friends.

“Give us your candy, right now!” growled the bigger bully.

“Yeah, hand it all over”, barked the shorter bully.

Nana Witch and the children stood frozen in their tracks. They did not know what to do.

Meanwhile, two black cats had been watching from a nearby fence.

They were talking cats and their names were Paul and Ruby.

“Hey, it looks like trouble brewing over there”, said Ruby to Paul.

“Yes, it’s those mean old bullies!” said Paul.

“We can’t let them get away with this, again!” sighed Ruby.

So, Ruby and Paul took deep breaths and screamed at the bullies.

“You get away from those children right now!”

The bullies looked all around, but they didn’t see anyone else.

They shrugged their shoulders and laughed.

“Give us your candy, right now”, growled the bigger one.

Ruby and Paul puffed themselves up and looked like big, black puff balls.

They yowled at the bullies, “You better leave those children alone, or we’ll make you sorry!”

“Oh yeah?”, said the shorter bully, “And, what are you going to do about it?”

“You’ll see”, said the two black cats and their eyes glowed big, and round and bright green in the night.

Out came the loudest howls that Nana Witch had ever heard from talking cats in all her whole born years.

Everyone became quiet and looked up at the night sky in amazement.

What looked like a tiny whisp of cloud floated down from far up in the night sky. It grew closer, and as it floated closer down to everyone on the ground, it began to take shape. What was it?

Everyone squinted their eyes to try to make it out, except for the two talking black cats. They know exactly what and who it was.

It was a Halloween Ghost!! Petra never knew there was such a thing as a Halloween Ghost, but here it was, floating in the night sky and looking down on everyone. But, wait! This ghost looked different than any regular ghost. This ghost wore big orange polka dots in the shape of jack-o-lanterns.

“My name is Tania” said the polka-dotted ghost in a spooky voice, “and I do not allow bullies to scare children, or take their candy, so you can just go away right now”, booed Tania.

“Oh yeah, so make us!” snarled the bullies.

“Oh boy, you asked for it now!” purred Paul and Ruby, rubbing their front paws together with glee.

Tania floated closer to the bullies and before they could say one more word, she pulled two big jack-o-lantern polka dots off her white sheet coat and watched them as they gently floated towards the bullies.

The bullies just laughed and said, “You can’t scare us with those funny polka dots.”

Well, those orange jack-o-lantern polka dots landed on the bullies and turned into ooey, gooey, sticky pumpkin mush and got into their hair, faces, hands and all over their clothes.

The short bully got really scared and said to the bigger bully, “Now, were in for it! We should never have dressed up and acted like bullies! We’re going to be in so much trouble now! We better go home.” The bullies ran away.

As they ran away, the two talking cats yowled, “Told you we’d make you sorry!”

Tania, the Halloween Ghost smiled down on Nana Witch and her group of children and said, “You won’t have any more trouble, now!”

The bullies were gone, and they had learned their lesson. They never acted like bullies again.

Nana Witch, Petra and their friends had a wonderful Halloween, which they never forgot.

Paul and Ruby cuddled together in a cozy corner of the fence and snoozed under the night sky. They had helped to save the day.

“Happy Halloween”, said Tania, as she floated away back into the night sky. She would be watching to keep them all safe.
